Methods of Administration and Dose

Aloe Vera juice is extremely soothing to irritated skin and mucous membranes. To relieve heartburn and inflammation of the esophagus take one tablespoonful in a glass of water or juice and sip slowly. Aloe Vera gel may be applied topically to skin irritations and burns. Apply liberally and keep the skin moist for best results. Whole leaf Aloe Vera juice helps strengthen and build the body's immune system and is used to fight degenerative diseases such as cancer and AIDS.   Aloe Vera can also be diluted to one half or one third strength as nose drops to relieve nasal and sinus congestion.

Contraindications

It is suggested children, the elderly and pregnant women should not drink Aloe Vera juice. However, this may apply only to the green leaf portion (which is a strong laxative) or to Aloe Vera concentrates. The green part of the leaf is filtered out in the juice and the gel leaving a mild, harmless remedy.

Many companies manufacture Aloe Vera, but most products on the market have lost much of the plant’s original benefits due to over-processing. Beware of Aloe Vera juice that claims to have no disagreeable taste. Removing this taste can leave you with a product that is only 10–15 percent Aloe Vera, at best.

The prostate is a gland in the male reproductive system just below the bladder. It surrounds part of the urethra, the canal that empties the bladder, and produces a fluid that forms part of semen. It is estimated that more than 234,000 men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year. One in 20 men will die of prostate cancer. With those numbers, it is imperative to know what you can do to prevent becoming a statistic.

What Steps Can Be Taken To Ensure Prostate Health?
  • Men who have a diet that is high in red meat with little or no fruits and vegetables are at a higher risk for prostate cancer. Stimulants such as caffeine, coffee and chocolate are also bad for the prostate.
  • Never ignore the urge to urinate. The longer you hold toxins in the bladder, the longer those toxins will be in contact with the prostate.
  • Drinking purified water is also very important as dehydration stresses the prostate. It is also beneficial for males who have reproductive issues.
  • Exercising the prostate through frequent sexual intercourse is beneficial in keeping the prostate from becoming stagnant.
  • Colon cleansing as well as bladder cleansing is also very beneficial to maintaining prostate health.
  • Regular prostate exams are recommended after age 40 or even younger.
  • It is also recommended to have your PSA (Prostate Specific Antigens) levels checked, which can be taken from the blood. PSA levels are an indication of the health of the prostate. The lower the number, the better off you are. Zero of course being the best number to have. Higher numbers may indicate prostate enlargement.
Natural Remedies What Are Beneficial For Prostate Health
  • Saw Palmetto is an herb that is very effective in relieving bladder problems. It is also effective in reducing inflammation and spasms in the prostate. Saw Palmetto also inhibits dihydrotestosterone, which causes cells in the prostate to multiply excessively.
  • Flax Seed Oil, noted since 1941 for its benefits to the prostate, also improves fertility as well as libido. It also increases energy levels.
  • Zinc is very important to prostate health and in maintaining a healthy prostate shape. Supplementation is recommended as 10 to 15 mg. of zinc is lost during each ejaculation.
  • Red Root, found in Lymphomax, is helpful in relieving prostate discomfort.
  • Nature's Sunshine's Men's Formula is an excellent daily supplement to enhance and protect prostate health.
  • Gingko Biloba increases blood flow to the prostate and penis.
  • Uva Ursi along with large amounts of Vitamin C is also beneficial for prostate health as it is an excellent bladder detoxifier.
Xenoestrogens

Xenoestrogens are man-made estrogens that can be found in food by-products, plastic, pesticides, household cleaning products, clothes and pharmaceuticals as well as many other sources. These xenoestrogens have a detrimental effect on men's health by causing an overload of estrogen in the body. Recent studies have shown a 600% increase of breast cancer in males as well as a decline in male fertility due to exposure to xenoestrogens. Osteoporosis is also a concern for men due to estrogen dominance.

Another health concern for men due to an overload of estrogen in the body is Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia or BPH. BPH is defined as an abnormal increase in the size of the prostate and has typically been seen in middle-aged to elderly men. Today, due to exposure to xenoestrogens, BPH is being found in men in their early 20's and even males in their teens.

As the prostate grows larger, it pressure against the bladder and urethra causing symptoms such as urinary frequency, urinary hesitancy and resistance which can lead to urinary tract infections.

Natural Ways To Combat Xenoestrogens
  • First and foremost, limit your exposure as much as possible by avoiding products which contain xenoestrogens.
  • Using DHEA-M, an excellent nutritional supplement from Nature's Sunshine, helps to balance out estrogen dominance in males. It is also a great product for older men that are lacking virility and vitality. It also helps with depression.
  • Using a low dosage natural progesterone cream such as Pro-G-Yam 5 mg. is also effective. Men who have a chest that becomes "breast-like" due to estrogen dominance can benefit from using natural progesterone.
Peyronie's Disease

Another health concern for men is Peyronie's Disease, which is a circulation disorder of the penis that causes deteroriation of the penis shaft. This condition is typically found in men over 55 and can affect 1 to 3 men out of 100. Symptoms include pain with erection, indentation or bending of the penis as well as areas of plaque or hardened tissue.

Natural Remedies for Peyronie's Disease
  • A very effective natural therapy for Peyronie's if caught in the early stages of the disease is to mix 10% Ylang Ylang Essential Oil with 90% of a carrier oil such as Olive Oil. Apply this to the penis every time you go to the bathroom. This will help to stimulate circulation to the area.
  • Flax Seed Oil is also beneficial as it thins the blood and improves circulation.
  • Herbs such as Garlic and Capsicum also improve circulation.

Most of us who are pet owners regularly give our animals treatments to rid them of many different parasites but don't consider that we may be harboring these same parasites inside of our own bodies.  Many doctors in the United States believe that 80 to 90 percent of Americans have parasites. And because of these parasites millions of people are suffering needlessly from chronic diseases caused by parasites.  Parasitic experts believe there are 100 to 130 common parasites that are being hosted in our bodies.

In 1993, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease reported 100 deaths and more than 400,000 people who became ill from the parasite cryptosporidium, a protozoan (a one-celled organism) that had infected the city of Milwaukee's water system. In October of 1994, NBC's Dateline reported this same parasite as the cause of deaths and illnesses in New York City.  In 1998, cyrptosporidium caused widespread water contamination in Sydney, Austrailia.

While some parasites are believed to cause little or no harm to the human body, many of these parasites cause great harm. For example, protozoans that cause malaria are parasites that attack and destroy red blood cells and have caused the deaths of 3 million people worldwide every year.  Some parasites are content to feed on the host's food supply while others do further harm and consume body tissues and cells and occassionally burrow through into the kidneys, corneas, muscles and brain. A tapeworm can grow to a considerable size in our bodies and it is highly likely we would not be aware of it's presence. Waste products from parasites may be toxic and these toxins are released directly into the body of the host. Parasites cause infections that compromise our immune systems.

Below is a list of some of the common symptoms of parasites:
  • Allergies
  • Anemia
  • Apathy
  • Asthma
  • Bedwetting
  • Bloating
  • Blood in stools
  • Blurry or unclear vision
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Constipation
  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Eating more than usual but staying hungry
  • Excess weight gain
  • Fatty tumors (especially on the feet)
  • Fevers
  • Flatulence
  • Forgetfulness
  • Immune System dysfunction
  • Intestinal obstruction
  • Irritablity
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Itchy anus, nose or ears
  • Lethargy
  • Lips chapped during the day
  • Nervousness
  • Nutrient deficiencies
  • Pain in the back, joints or muscles
  • Problems with menstruation
  • Sensitive to touch
  • Sexual dysfunction in males
  • Skin problems
  • Sleep disorders
  • Stomach discomfort
  • Swollen glands
  • Teeth clinching or grinding
  • Toxicity
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, parasites may not necessarily be the cause but it certainly should not be overlooked as 80 to 90 percent of us have parasites without even knowing it!

Common Sources

There are several ways in which we can possibly come into contact with parasites some of them being through contact with animals, contaminated fruits and vegetables, infected drinking water, meat, day-care centers and pre-schools, basic hygiene, travel overseas and sexual practices.

What can you do to aid your body in getting rid of parasites?
  • Eat fresh fruits and vegetables (especially green leafy)
  • Eat whole grains such as rice.
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Do a parasite cleanse
AVOID:
  • Coffee
  • Alcohol
  • Sugary or fried foods
  • White potatoes
  • Egg plant
  • Red peppers
  • Tomatoes
  • Diets high in carbohydrates
  • Infected drinking water
  • Contaminated flour
  • Raw or undercooked fish, beef, chicken
  • Unwashed fruits and vegetables
  • Water chestnuts and watercress

We are facing a huge health care crisis.  More and more of the disease causing bacteria we are exposed to on a daily basis are becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotics.  Allopathic medicine calls this bacteria “Superbugs”.

Bacteria and germs are a part of everyday life and serve a purpose.  Usually we live in harmony with these microorganisms.  It is only when our immune systems become compromised and weakened that illness can set in.

How do antibiotics become resistant in the first place?

For many people whenever they become sick a first line of defense is to take antibiotics prescribed by their doctor.  Many stop taking the antibiotics as soon as results are seen and the person begins to feel better and doesn't complete the recommended course.  This allows the stronger strains of bacteria to survive and reproduce.  Bacteria has a short life cycle but reproduces very quickly.  Once the person begins to experience symptoms again and returns to the doctor the doctor in turn prescribes an even stronger and more expensive antibiotic that is not only toxic to the bacteria but is also toxic to the body as well.

Other times antibiotics are prescribed inappropriately for viruses.  Many are unaware of the fact that antibiotics are ineffective in the treatment of a virus.  Unfortunately there is virtually no way to distinguish between a viral infection and a bacterial infection without the use of diagnostic tests.  Some of these tests are difficult to perform as well as expensive.  Many times doctors will go ahead and prescribe antibiotics to “cover all the bases” without really knowing for sure.  Other times doctors are pressured into writing a prescription for antibiotics by the patient or the patient's parents.  According to the US Government at least half of the 100 billion prescriptions written for antibiotics each year are unnecessary. In 2004, the FDA required a warning to be added to the labeling of antibiotics to warn of the dangers of overuse.

Over the years doctors have begun to prescribe antibiotics less.  Unfortunately we are still being exposed to antibiotics through the food we eat and even the water we drink.  Many animals that are not organically raised are regularly given antibiotics due to poor living conditions which breeds illness.  When we consume this meat we are also consuming the antibiotics.  Municipal water supplies can also become contaminated from runoff into streams and groundwater from feedlots on these animal farms.

MRSA – The Hospital Born “Superbug”

According to the Mayo Clinic, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA is an infection caused by the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria — also known as "staph" - that can be fatal.  Decades ago, a strain of staph emerged in hospitals that was resistant to the broad-spectrum antibiotics commonly used to treat it. MRSA was one of the first germs to outsmart all but the most powerful drugs.

In the 1990s, a type of MRSA began showing up in the wider community. Today, that form of staph, known as community-associated MRSA, or CA-MRSA, is responsible for many serious skin and soft tissue infections and as well as a serious form of pneumonia.

Vancomycin is one of the few antibiotics still effective against hospital strains of MRSA infection, although the drug is no longer effective in every case. Several drugs continue to be effective against CA-MRSA, but this bacteria is rapidly evolving as well and it may only be a matter of time before it becomes resistant to most antibiotics.

Who is at risk of contracting MRSA?

  • Those who have been recently or are currently hospitalized.   According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in American hospitals alone, healthcare-associated infections account for an estimated 1.7 million infections and 99,000 associated deaths each year.  More than 70% of the bacteria that cause hospital-acquired infections are resistant to at least one of the drugs most commonly used to treat them.
  • Those who have received an invasive medical procedure such as surgery, catheterization or dialysis.
  • Those who have recently taken antibiotics.
  • Those who reside in a long-term care facility.  Cases of MRSA are more widespread in these types of facilities than in hospitals.
  • Those involved in contact sports.  CA-MRSA or community-associated MRSA can be spread through cuts and abrasions.
  • Those who are health care workers and those who associate with health care workers.
  • Those who have a weakened immune system.  Children are also at higher risk as their immune systems are not fully developed.

According to Fox News at least six state school districts have recently reported students infected with MRSA and this infection is responsible for the deaths of at least three children.  So a good question would be what can we do to strengthen the immune system naturally and prevent infection?

  • Building up the immune system using natural whole foods such as fruits and vegetables supplies the body with much needed nutrients in order to boost immune system function.  It is also advisable to take a complete multivitamin and mineral supplement, such as Super Supplemental, that is derived from natural sources on a daily basis.  Unless you are getting organic, fresh foods that are locally grown and in season you are probably not getting maximum nutrition.  Herbasaurs is an excellent natural multivitamin and mineral supplement for kids.
  • Avoid food and water sources that may contain antibiotics.
  • Be proactive in your health care instead of reactive.  With almost 100,000 deaths each year being being blamed on health care-associated infections, prevention is definitely the best medicine.
  • Be sure to practice good hygiene with regular hand washing with soap and water.  Also be sure to thoroughly clean cuts and scrapes to prevent infection.
  • Get appropriate rest and exercise along with managing stress effectively.
  • Avoid contact with those who are sick.
  • Use Garlic.  Garlic or a high potency Garlic supplement is effective against bacteria that is resistant to antibiotics and has long been known as “nature's penicillin”.  Children should take only ¼ to ½ of an adult dose while nursing babies can receive the antimicrobial benefits of Garlic through breast milk when Garlic is taken by the mom.
  • Use Echinacea.  Echinacea actually promotes the production of T cells and can shorten the duration of upper respiratory infections.  As Echinacea is an immune system stimulant, it should not be used by those who have autoimmune disorders and should not be taken longer than 8 weeks at a time then take a break for a week or two.
  • Taking Colloidal Silver has also shown to be beneficial against “Superbugs”.
  • IN-X fights infection and supports the immune system and promotes lymphatic cleansing.  It is used in the treatment of colds, sinus infections, urinary tract infections and tonsillitis.
  • The lymphatic system contains a network of channels throughout the body and it's main job is to detoxify the body.  The lymph nodes or glands serve as barriers of protection.  We have about 100,000 lymph nodes throughout the body, which contain white blood cells and other immune cells which attack foreign invaders.  When the flow of lymph is obstructed by swelling you may get a condition called Lymphedema which can be very painful.  When the lymph system is sluggish toxins can accumulate in the body.  Whenever a person is sick they typically don't feel like getting physical exercise which can cause the lymph system to become stagnant causing slowed healing.  Using a supplement such as Lymphatic Drainage during illness promotes detoxification of the lymphatic system and promotes normal lymph flow throughout the body.

Heavy Metal Toxicity:  How to know if you have been exposed and what to do if you have?

Heavy metals are elements which can be found on the periodic table and are five times heavier than water in equal amounts.  There are about 23 heavy metals we may be exposed to on a regular basis which include but are not limited to: Arsenic, Beryllium,  Bismuth, Cadmium, Lead, Mercury, Platinum, Nickel, Uranium, Tin, Hexavalent Chromium, Vanadium, Cobalt and Titanium.

Arsenic

The heavy metal Arsenic can be found in chemical fertilizers, fungicides and pesticides.  It is not uncommon for high amounts of Arsenic to be found in homes that are treated with chemical pesticides.   Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France met his demise due to Arsenic poisoning.  In an autopsy, it was found his body contained 13 times the amount of lethal levels of Arsenic.  It was also discovered that all of his wine tasters had the same amount of Arsenic in their bodies as well.   Symptoms of Arsenic poisoning include numbness, tingling, burning sensation, muscle tenderness, neuropathy and darkened areas of the skin not exposed to sunlight.

Lead

According to the National Safety Council lead is a highly toxic substance, exposure to which can produce a wide range of adverse health effects. Both adults and children can suffer from the effects of lead poisoning, but childhood lead poisoning is much more frequent. Over the many years since we have known about the hazards of lead, tens of millions of children have suffered its health effects. Even today there are still at minimum more than four hundred thousand children under the age of six who have too much lead in their blood.

Sources of Lead include gas, lead-based paint, battery manufacturing, plumbing, hair coloring, cosmetics and pesticides.  Many candles made in China also contain Lead.  Symptoms can include:  allergies, birth defects, colic, hyperactivity and mood swings.

Cadmium

Cadmium is another highly toxic heavy metal that can be found in nickel cadmium batteries, motor oil, insecticides, fertilizer sludge and in cigars and cigarettes.  High concentrations of cadmium levels can also be found in the water, air and soil in industrial areas.  Cadmium toxicity targets the liver, brain, kidneys, bones and the placenta of pregnant women.  Symptoms of cadmium poisoning include: hair loss, loss of taste and smell, Osteoporosis, migraine headaches and learning disorders.

Aluminum

Aluminum is not a heavy metal, but it is still very toxic.  There are many products on the market today that contain Aluminum such as antiperspirants, soaps, cigarettes, food products, soda cans, baking powders, cookware, aluminum foil, and even drinking water.  When using Aluminum cookware while preparing an acidic food like tomato, the aluminum will actually leach into the food.  This also applies to aluminum foil.  Aluminum found in drinking soda cans is also broken down by the carbonated beverage contained in the can which means with each sip of soda you're also getting a dose of Aluminum.

Symptoms of Aluminum toxicity include headache, disorientation, Cancer, heartburn, colic, flatulence, along with being linked to Osteoporosis, extreme nervousness, anemia, memory loss and Alzheimer's Disease.

Mercury

Do you recall the fictional character of the Mad Hatter in the story of Alice in Wonderland?  Many believe the term “mad hatter” came into use because of the fact that in Victorian times Mercury was used in order to cure felt that was used in the making of some hats.  Many of these men became very ill over time due their exposure to Mercury with symptoms of neurological damage with impaired speech.  With increased exposure to Mercury the symptoms progressed to psychotic behavior such as hallucinations.  Many of these men were labeled as being mad.

In our modern society today we are exposed to Mercury through dental amalgam fillings, chlorine, some of our oceans, and from vaccinations which contain the preservative Thimerosol, which contains Mercury.

Symptoms of Mercury toxicity include: metallic taste in the mouth, headaches, weakness, visual disturbances, anxiety, emotional instability, forgetfulness, tremors like those seen in individuals who have Parkinson's Disease, ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease.  Children are particularly sensitive to Mercury as their nervous systems are still developing.

How Can We Safely Detoxify Our Bodies From Heavy Metals?<

First off, limit your exposure as much as possible to these harmful elements.  For those who do have silver amalgam fillings that contain Mercury you have the option of having these fillings removed by a holistic dentist or a dentist who practices natural dentistry.  Be sure this dentist uses safety precautions that are necessary when removing and disposing of these toxic fillings.

Vitamin C Ascorbates binds with Mercury and will literally pull it out of the body.  It is important to start out very slowly when using the Vitamin C in order to avoid unwanted side effects or what naturopathic practitioners call “the healing crisis”.  Nutrients can stir up toxins in the body once you give the body the needed fuel to expel unwanted substances.  Slow and steady is the key to moving the toxins out so the body can keep up with the job of eliminating them.  Vitamin C Ascorbates is a non-acidic form of Vitamin C and is also unsweetened.  It can be mixed with water or other beverages for a tasty drink.  It consists of Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium – minerals which are very much needed by the body.  It is recommended to start out with 1000 mg. 2 times per day.     If you do have Mercury fillings removed, it is very beneficial to premix this drink and take it along with you to the dentist.  Drinking the Vitamin C Ascorbates drink right after the fillings have been removed will help to remove the Mercury that is released from fumes that have been vaporized during the removal.

Do a Vitamin C Flush.  A Vitamin C flush encourages the bowels to move and cleans out the body.  This is a great cleanse even if you don't have heavy metal issues.  The Vitamin C flush cleanse will give you fabulous energy after the 1st or 2nd day after the cleanse.  Many experience immediate benefits.

Vitamin C Flush by Joan Kasich, CNHP

This flush cleans out the entire digestive and intestinal tract quickly and effectively.  Sometimes  individuals will feel tired after the initial cleanse.  However, on the following day, they will get a surge of energy.  Others feel better right after the flush. This flush should be done immediately after having any mercury amalgam removed from the body.

Step by Step Process

(This protocol is only recommended for use with Natures Sunshine Vitamin C Ascorbates so as not to lose any electrolytes.)
  1. Start with the normal amount of Vitamin C Ascorbates you personally use daily.  For example, if you take 2000 mg per day, then dissolve 1 teaspoon of Vitamin C Ascorbates in 2 oz of water or 1 to 2 oz. of orange juice to enhance the flavor.  Swallow this mixture.
  2. Every 30 minutes, dissolve 1/2 Teaspoon Vitamin C Ascorbates (equal to 1000 mg.) in about 2-3 oz of water/orange juice mix.
  3. Repeat every 30 minutes until you have a watery flush. The "flush" will feel as if you are evacuating a quart of liquid from the rectum after an enema. It feels as if you are having "explosive diarrhea". You need to stay close to a bathroom when you are doing this flush as the urge to evacuate will come on very quickly.
  4. Note how many milligrams of Vitamin C it took to have the flush.  For example, if you had the flush at 12,000 milligrams, then a dose of 10,000 milligrams per day is needed for your body at that time. It is recommended to disperse the 10,000 mg. throughout the day.
  5. You should have a flush within 4 hours. If you do not have a flush, discontinue the flush, and start again the next day.
  6. However, the next day, start with the amount that you ended with the previous day.  For example, if you got up to 10,000 milligrams and did not have a flush, start with 10,000 milligrams right at the start. Then, add 2 Teaspoons (4000mg) to 3 oz of the juice mix every 15 minutes until you get a flush. Note the amount of Vitamin C Ascorbates it took to get the flush. If it took 20,000 mg to get the flush, then the following day, take about 15,000 mg per day, spread throughout the day (ie, 2 teaspoons, 4 times per day).
  7. This is the test to find out the amount of Vitamin C Ascorbates you need to take daily to Bowel Tolerance. Over time as you detoxify more and more your body will need less and less Vitamin C.
  8. If you have a high mercury count as a result of Hair or Urine Analysis, it is recommended to do this once a week. Otherwise, a Vitamin C Flush can be done about once a month or once a quarter as maintenance. It's a safe and quick way to cleanse the entire body.  This cleanse does not cause your body to lose electrolyte balance because it contains much needed minerals.
Heavy Metal Dotox binds and removes heavy metals from the body.  It supports the liver and helps the body replenish vital minerals and contains Cilantro, Apple Pectin, Sodium Alginate, Kelp, Kelp Algae, Alpha Lipoic Acid and Magnesium.    An excellent protocol for removing heavy metal toxins is to do the Vitamin C Flush a few times over a period of time then begin taking the Heavy Metal Detox.  Start out with 1 capsule per day gradually increasing to 2 capsules.

Algin or sodium alginate is an important part of the Kelp plant.  It is mucilaginous which means it is a bulking fiber and helps to encourage normal elimination and will expand and grab toxins to help expel them from the body.  As we get older it is important to make sure we are getting adequate amounts of Fiber in our diet.  Algin binds many toxic metals – especially Cadmium. Start with 1 capsule 3 times per day then gradually build up to 2 capsules 3 times per day.  Algin like any other fiber should be taken at a different time of day than vitamin and mineral supplements as it can absorb the nutrients.

Super Omega 3 EPA is a source of two fatty acids, EPA and DHA.  Metals tend to lodge in the fat cells.  Fatty acids such as Super Omega 3 EPA help to bind to the heavy metals and pull them out of the body.  Use 1 to 2 capsules per day.

Hydrated Bentonite Clay when taken internally can help to eliminate toxins.  This can also be used in a bath.  Internally take about 1 Tablespoon 2 times per day in a glass of water.  For a detoxifying bath use 2 cups in a warm tub of water.  Be sure not to soak longer than 20 minutes as the pores in the skin will open up and toxins could leach back into the body.  Rinse off the Hydrated Bentonite Clay in the shower.  To eliminate exposure to Chlorine use a filter on the shower head.

Mega Chel rids the body of anything that is attached to the arteries that shouldn't be there.  It is a powerhouse of nutritional support for the Circulatory System but it also grabs heavy metals as well.  High in nutrients such as Vitamins A, C, D, B12, Niacin, Calcium, Copper, Iron, Phosphorous, Magnesium, Citrus Bioflavonoids and much more.  Begin by taking 1 tablet twice daily for a week. Then take 2 tablets twice daily for the second week. Gradually increase to 4 tablets with a meal twice daily. Maintain this level for three to four months. Then gradually taper off in a similar manner.

Liquid Calcium is great for anyone who has Lead poisoning.  The Lead binds to the Calcium and is then removed from the body.

NAC helps to protect the body from second hand cigarette smoke and also protects the liver from heavy metals.  NAC or N-Acetyl Cysteine is an amino acid that is essential for the body to mount a defense against free radicals.  It helps protect the cells from the damage caused from drugs, metal poisoning and cigarette smoke.  The herb Turmeric is added to increase liver support.  NAC may interfere with the efficacy of insulin and should not be used by those who have been diagnosed with Diabetes without first consulting with their health care provider.

The use of Probiotics along with Fiber is indicated in individuals who have Candida that can't seem to get rid of it which is in common with Mercury toxicity.

Autoimmunity involves the immune system failing to recognize the body's cells and tissues as being a part of the body, which results in the immune system attacking those cells and tissues. Any disease resulting from autoimmunity is called an auto-immune disorder.

There are over 60 known disorders thought to be related to autoimmunity. Below is a summarized list of conditions related to autoimmune disorders :

Alopecia Areata – An autoimmune disorder that is characterized by hair loss. It is found commonly in men and women and can occur at any age, including childhood.

Alzheimer's Disease – Characterized as a progressive brain disorder, which involves a decline in social and intellectual abilities. Alzheimer's Disease is thought to be associated with free radical damage in the brain and inorganic aluminum.

Celiac Disease – A chronic inflammation of the colon that creates an intestinal breakdown due to an allergic reaction to gluten. Gluten is a protein that is found in grains such as wheat, barley, oat and rye.

Crohn's Disease – A chronic inflammatory bowel disease, which is characterized by severe inflammation of the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. This disorder is typically seen in persons between the ages of 15 and 35, but can also be found in young children and the elderly as well.

Fibromyalgia – This disorder is characterized by aches and pains in the muscles along with chronic fatigue and insomnia. It is estimated between 3 to 6 million people in the US suffer with Fibromyalgia. Ninety percent of them being women.

Graves Disease – A disorder affecting the thyroid gland. In this disease auto-antibodies bind to the thyroid gland, which increases the production of thyroid hormone, which plays a major role in metabolism. Symptoms include nervousness, diarrhea, insomnia, sweating, and weight loss with increased appetite. More serious symptoms include irregular heart beat, tachycardia (increased heart rate), swelling of eyes and legs. In rare cases, cardiovascular collapse, shock or coma could occur.

Lupus – A disorder which instead of the body's immune system functioning properly as protection from harmful invaders, it forms antibodies that attack healthy tissues and organs. Symptoms include aching joints, inflammation, swelling, fatigue, fevers and rashes. Lupus is a mild disease affecting only a few organs, but for others it may cause serious, even life-threatening problems.

Multiple Sclerosis – A chronic inflammatory condition which involves the central nervous system (CNS), which consists of the brain and spinal cord. This chronic inflammation causes severe damage to the myelin sheath (covering of the nerves). Symptoms include blurred vision, numbness and paralysis. Mercury toxicity may be a causal factor.

Psoriasis – A common chronic skin condition which is characterized by symptoms similar to eczema. It involves the hyperactivity of the immune system which creates a form of inflammation. This inflammatory reaction causes skin cells to multiply seven to twelve times faster than normal. The skin is often dry and itchy as well as being cracked or blistered.

Rheumatoid Arthritis – This disorder can affect many joints, but most commonly the small joints of the hands. An autoimmune attack on the tissues causes inflammation along with pain and swelling. If uncontrolled it could lead to destruction of the bones, deformity and eventually disability. It is thought that a factor of rheumatoid arthritis is holding onto bitterness.

What are natural ways that can be used which are helpful for autoimmune disorders?

Most people with autoimmune disorders suffer from exhausted adrenals. The adrenals produce a hormone that controls the immune response called cortisol. Cortico-steroid drugs are used to treat autoimmune disorders to mimic the action of cortisol, but have undesirable side effects. A natural alternative to consider is Licorice, which is an herb that supports the adrenals, as well as having anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. Yucca also has anti-inflammatory properties as well as mimics the effects of cortisol. It also has a detoxifying effect as well as a blood thinning property. Wild Yam is another herb that can be taken as an anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic. Willow bark also has an anti-inflammatory property and can help bring relief from pain in autoimmune disorders.

Stress management is a key factor in dealing with autoimmune disorders as stress adversely affects the adrenal glands. Getting an adequate amount of sleep as well as having a positive mental attitude can be very helpful. Supplements that can be beneficial in helping the body manage stress are Siberian Ginseng, Chinese Mineral Chi Tonic and Nutri-Calm.

Antioxidants aid the body in balancing immune activity and also fight free radical damage. Green Tea Extract and High Potency Grapine are appropriate choices.

Essential Oils that may be beneficial for autoimmune disorders include Bergamot, Clary Sage, Lavender and Roman Chamomile.

Adding essential fatty acids to your diet like Flax Seed Oil and Omega-3 EPA can help to reduce inflammatory responses.

Magnesium deficiency is also common in cases of autoimmune disorders. Fibralgia contains magnesium as well as malic acid which is beneficial for generating cellular energy and may be helpful for Fibromyalgia.

Moderate exercise such as walking or swimming can be helpful but care should be taken not to over exert the body.

Taking a digestive enzyme is very beneficial.

Taking a Probiotic daily is recommended to help put healthy bacteria into the intestines which may help reduce allergic responses.

What should be avoided?

Immune stimulants are contraindicated as this could only make the problem worse. Avoid taking herbs and supplements that boost the immune system such as Colostrum, Dandelion Root, Echinacea, Goldenseal, and Yarrow.

Avoid essential oils that stimulate the immune system such as Geranium, Thyme and Ylang Ylang.

Food allergies may also be a factor in autoimmune disorders. Common allergens are hydrogenated fats and oils such as margarine and shortening, grains such as wheat and corn and dairy products. Foods that aggravate the condition should be avoided.

Avoid refined carbohydrates and sugars which feeds Candida, a fungus that may also be a contributing factor for autoimmune disorders.

Toxicity and Heavy Metal Poisoning

It is believed that heavy metal poisoning, such as with vaccines that contain mercury and other toxins that are injected directly into the bloodstream as well as other toxic chemicals we are exposed to on a daily basis, are a major factor in the underlying cause of autoimmune disorders. A gentle detoxification is recommended so as not to detoxify the body too quickly causing a “healing crisis”. SAM-e can be helpful in detoxifying the liver and has been beneficial in some cases of Fibromyalgia.  Enviro Detox taken in small doses can also be helpful.

A few years ago I attended a seminar on health and one of the topics was Nutritional Deficiencies and how even following the USDA's recommended daily allowance does not prevent nutritional deficiencies.

Consider 1 medium organic carrot contains 270% Vitamin A. This is OVER 2 1/2 TIMES the USDA's recommended daily allowance!

In 1964, Dr. Myron Brin published a groundbreaking finding on The Five Stages of Nutritional Deficiency. At deficiency levels 1, 2 and 3 a person might experience insomnia, nightmares, irritability, fatigue, and loss of appetite - while consuming the USDA's recommended daily allowance. Brin's study also noted the USDA's RDA only helps to avoid the 4th and 5th levels of deficiency where diseases like Beriberi - a nervous system ailment caused by thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency - manifest themselves.

Dr. Brin also noted the RDA of vitamins and minerals provide only the bare minimum level of nutrients our bodies need and does not prevent the first three stages of nutritional deficiencies which is evident in the growing number of learning disabilities, such as ADD, in children.

To understand how much our bodies really need in order to have optimal health a good starting place is the Optimal Recommended Daily Allowances (ORDA).

ORDA was established by Dr. Emanual Cheraskin of the University of Alabama Medical School. Dr. Cheraskin is world renowned as a foremost authority on nutrition and has authored and co-authored over 700 publications in international scientific journals and 22 books including Diet & Disease, Predictive Medicine and The Vitamin C Connection.

Below is a comparison chart of ORDA compared to the USDA's Recommended Daily Allowance as well as the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI), which are the most recent set of dietary recommendations established by the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine and replaces the previous Recommended Daily Allowances (RDAs).

With all the conflicting information out there today about what is healthy and what is not, I always turn to the Bible and search for the answers I'm seeking in God's Word.  There are so many products available on the market today that boast being “heart healthy” which is low in fat. It is important to know that the Bible teaches there are healthy fats as well as unhealthy ones.

We can find 5 different kinds of fats mentioned in the Scripture, which are:
  1. Butter. In the book of Genesis when the Lord appeared to Abraham in Mamre to tell Abraham and Sarah they would have a son, Abraham prepared a meal, which included butter.

“And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.” Genesis 18:8 (KJV) Butter which was made from cattle, goats or sheep was eaten freely. Of course due to farming practices today is it wise to choose butter that is organic to avoid antibiotics and hormones.
  2. Fish Oils. Considering that our Lord Jesus gave fish to His disciples (John 21:13) we can be sure that the fat from the fish oils which occurs naturally in fish is allowed.
  3. Olive Oil. II Kings 18:32 (KJV) says, ”Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.“ Fats that occur naturally in plant food, such as olives are always in the liquid state and can be eaten of freely.
  4. Poultry. Poultry is considered a lean and clean meat (Leviticus 11:13-23) and contains fat that occurs naturally and is also permitted. Again due to farming practices it is best to choose poultry meat that is from organic, free-range animals.
  5. Red Meat. In Leviticus 7:23 God spoke to Moses saying, “Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Ye shall eat no matter of the fat, of ox, or of sheep, or of goat.” Fat from domesticated red-meat animals such as cows is forbidden.
Essential Fatty Acids

Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are good fats that fall into two groups: Omega-3 and Omega-6 and are vital to proper hormone function and tissue development as well as good health. EFAs are also vital for cell membranes and are used to produce and store energy and are beneficial to the Nervous, Circulatory, Glandular and Immune systems

An important fact to know about EFAs is they are not naturally produced within the body and must be obtained through foods that contain EFAs or through supplementation. Good sources of EFAs can be found in Omega-3 Fish Oil, Flax Seed Oil, Evening Primrose Oil and Black Currant Oil.

Due to the typical American diet, EFA deficiency is a common problem and is linked to serious health problems such as heart disease, cancer, depression, diabetes, stroke, ADHD, and Alzheimer's to name a few. By supplementing your diet with a high quality Essential Fatty Acids supplement, you gain the healthy benefits.

According to Dr. Michael Jacobson in The Word on Health, Moody Press, p. 130, a number of studies have been shown that fish oils, which are related to omega-3 oils, have multiple beneficial effects, including:
  • prevention of heart dysrhythmias, especially ventricular fibrillation (the cause of death in approximately one-third of those who die from heart disease)
  • opposition of clotting, reducing the risk of heart attack
  • slowing down the growth of plaque in the arteries
  • promotion of the manufacture of natural nitroglycerin to keep the heart vessels open
  • lowering of plasma triglyceride fat levels
  • slowing down the production of “bad” cholesterol
  • lowering blood pressure
  • protection against colon cancer
How can you be sure you are getting enough healthy fats in your diet?
  1. When choosing between butter or margarine – choose butter. Margarine contains trans fatty acids which are very detrimental to good health.
  2. Adding raw seeds and nuts to your diet, which are a good source of essential fatty acids.
  3. Make fish a regular part of your diet.
  4. Choose lean meats like chicken and turkey. Be sure the meat you purchase is free of hormones and antibiotics.
  5. Prepare foods using a healthy fat such as olive oil.  It is important to note there is some disagreement on whether olive oil retains its healthy benefits once cooked at high temperatures.
  6. Eat red meat, that is clean and lean, in moderation. It is typically recommended to only eat red meat once a week.
  7. Take a high quality EFA supplement daily.

The health of our digestive system has a big impact on our overall health. According to Gloria Gilbere, N.D., D.A.Hom, PhD., author of Invisible Illnesses, over 70 million Americans suffer from digestive disorders with an estimated $15 billion being spent on costs for medical care.

The Digestive Process

The digestive system is responsible for food intake, digestion of food, the absorption of nutrients, and elimination of waste.

Digestion begins in the mouth. Digestive juices containing an enzyme called amylase are secreted in both the mouth and the lower intestines when we chew our food. Amylase breaks down starchy foods such as bread, potatoes, rice and pasta. This is why it is so important to chew our food thoroughly as this gives the digestive juices time to break down the food before traveling down the esophagus into the stomach.

The stomach contains Hydrochloric acid which is a very strong acid. So strong that if it were found anywhere other than the stomach, which is protected by a thick layer of mucous, it would burn a hole through the area. Along with hydrochloric acid the stomach also contains pepsin, an enzyme that breaks down proteins such as meat, beans, nuts and seeds. From the stomach food passes into the small intestine and is broken down further by pancreatic juice which contains the enzymes trypsin, which breaks down proteins, and lipase, which breaks down fats along with amylase. The gall bladder then secretes a digestive juice called bile which is produced by the liver. Bile assists fat digestion in the small intestine.

Absorption of Nutrients

Absorption is the process in which completely digested nutrients are taken into the circulatory system by passing through capillaries that are found in the walls of the small intestine. These nutrients are necessary in order for the body to function optimally. Once the digested food has passed through the small intestine and the nutrients are absorbed through the lining of the small intestine, the remaining food passes through the large intestine. At this point, the waste is mainly liquid. This liquid passes through the the wall of the large intestine and is absorbed by the body while the remaining waste is eliminated through the colon.

Symptoms of Poor Digestion
  • Indigestion
  • Cramping
  • Bloating
  • Heartburn
  • Bad breath
  • Flatulence
  • Weight loss
  • Wasting
  • Fatigue
  • Pallor
  • Inability to gain muscle mass
  • Nutritional deficiencies
Causes Of Poor Digestion
  • Eating food too quickly
  • Eating while under stress
  • Improper food combining
  • Drinking fluids with meals
  • Eating late in the evening
  • Not getting enough digestive enzymes in the diet
  • Overgrowth of harmful bacteria in the intestines
Tips To Improve Digestion
  1. Slow down and enjoy your food making sure to chew food thoroughly.
  2. not to eat whenever you are stressed as stress interferes with the digestive process.
  3. Be mindful of the foods you combine. It is recommended not to eat carbohydrates with proteins in the same meal. Carbohydrates require an alkaline environment for proper digestion, while proteins require an acid environment. Combining the two can actually neutralize digestive secretions resulting in inadequate digestion.
  4. Only drink small amounts of fluids with meals. Drinking with meals can dilute the acid in the stomach impeding proper digestion.
  5. Don't eat meals late in the evening. As the day progresses our body processes, including digestion, begin to slow. It is recommended not to eat past 7 pm.
  6. Increase digestive enzymes by supplementation using a full-spectrum digestive enzyme supplement which breaks down fats, proteins, carbohydrates and sugars.
  7. Eat more raw organic foods. Fruits and vegetables that have been cooked or processed lose vital enzymes. An easy way to add more raw foods to your diet is by juicing or by having fresh salads with meals.
  8. Add raw fermented foods to your diet such as pickled vegetables like sauerkraut and cucumbers as well as cultured dairy products like yogurt and cheese.
  9. Supplementing your diet with a healthy intestinal flora that contains a range of intestinal flora such as Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum. Ideally this supplement should also contain fructo-oligosaccharides (short- and long-chain), which support the growth of these beneficial organisms to ensure potency.
