Who Are You Offending?

Many people desire to be influential, to make a difference in the world, and to create change for the better. To do so it is impossible to please all of the people all of the time. To attempt to do so would leave you completely spinning out of control, and ineffective.

Seth Godin, in speaking of Tribes, says that you must first ask yourself “Who are you offending?” Because if you are not offending anyone then you are not changing the status quo. Most people are just “sheepwalkers”, doing what they are told, always following the rules, keeping their head down. These people are not leaders.

The next question to ask is “Who are you connecting?” People are always looking for leaders. Leaders tell a story to people who want to hear it. They then connect a tribe of people who are desperately wanting to be connected to each other. They are then able to lead a movement, and this entails change.

So the final question to ask is “Who are you leading?” Focusing on the who [you are leading], and not the mechanics of leading itself, allows you to actually become a leader.

Many will never be leaders, but the tribe you belong to, the issues that are important to you, and the issues to which you give your time and attention, will determine your effectiveness.

So again, who are you upsetting?

It could be as simple as trying out the benefits of chiropractic instead of blindly following the other sheep along the destructive medical route. If so, I can help you with that personally.
