The United States is not a democracy. That’s right, we’re not. We are a voting republic. We have the responsibility to elect officials to represent us in the manner which we feel best interprets our needs and desires. A democracy means that a mob (51%) can rule and control to the detriment of the other 49%. In a republic, the 49% is still valued, protected, and accorded equivalent rights.
It’s supposed to be that we “supply” the power to our chosen officials, to the local governments, to the state governments, and ultimately to the federal government. Government, at every level, is supposed to represent us, to respond to our demands, and perhaps most importantly, to leave us alone when we tell it to.
But increasingly, people have given up their personal responsibility and have instead opted to be “told” what to do in many aspects of their lives. Unfortunately, government has used this opportunity to make itself our parent, presuming we are incapable of making appropriate decisions for ourselves.
Since when do we not have the right to choose what is “best” or “appropriate” for ourselves?
What if you were told which clothes you could wear? What if you were told which foods you could eat? What if you were told where you could go to school? What if you were told which job you were allowed to have? What if you were told what you could and could not learn? What if you were told what health choices you could or could not make for yourself and your children?
Unbelievably, some of these things have already begun. As a human being you have a right to make choices, no matter how wrong someone else thinks they may be.
It is difficult to understand, but there are still people around the world who long to have what were once our freedoms, and we are so lazy we are letting them be taken away from us.
The power of the president, the congress, the representatives, the state and its branches, your local government, even your neighborhood associations come from YOU!
Therefore:
YOU ARE THE PARENT OF GOVERNMENT!
