People develop movement habits in their day to day lives. These movement habits, or postures become patterns of repetitive behavior. Postural patterns occur because we move in similar movement patterns throughout our day. Your posture might feel "right" or natural, but it may not at all be neutral (balanced or loaded correctly).
For many people, the PAIN you are experiencing now is the result of a series of small events: - old injures - poor posture habits - dysfunctional movement patterns - lack of daily exercise or gross motor movement. Combined as a whole these small events accumulate into the real reason you are having pain.
The cumulative effect of old injuries, chronic poor posture, dysfunctional movement patterns, muscle and joint adaptations cause constant muscle and joint stress. Because the body must balance itself anyway possible to allow for activities of daily living, and because loose joints move before a stiff joint, the chain of the body's motion follows the path of least resistance. This is why, over time, posture worsens and body stress increases as the body gets better at moving with adaptive posture & body motion patterns.
Poor posture and motion patterns cause muscle imbalance, joint stress and more poor motion. It is these changes in posture & motion cause real physical change and breakdown in the body. Muscles become chronically tight. Ligaments stretch. Joints wear. Ultimately, the chronic muscle spasm, and spine and joint alignment shifts and damage occurs. Thus describes the pain problem, a vicious cycle of unbalanced motion - causing breakdown - causing more unbalanced motion. Over time, the cumulative stress of unbalanced adaptive posture and motion results in muscle imbalance and joint wear.
