The news and country are abuzz with the state of healthcare reform. Many of our health-care problems are self-inflicted: two-thirds of Americans are now overweight and one-third are obese. Are these low-fat, fat-free diets helping us or killing us? What will happen to the health of the next generation? Most of the diseases that kill us —heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes and obesity—are mostly preventable through proper diet, exercise, not smoking, minimal alcohol consumption and other healthy lifestyle choices.
One thing is for certain in all this debate – we need to make changes and improvements. The best place to start is with our own health. Ask yourself today, “What improvements can I make today to make me healthier?” Here are some suggestions:
Preventative Care – Just as your car’s engine needs regular oil changes and tune-ups, so does your body. Regular acupuncture and chiropractic care can keep your spine and mind in line.
Feed Your Spirit – Participate in a spiritual fulfilling activity. Whether you find yoga, tai chi, meditation, qi gong, organized religion or some other form of spiritual practice, it is important that you take a deep breath and concentrate on your own body’s energy.
Daily Care – The old adage - you are what you eat is true! Recent scientific and medical evidence shows that a diet consisting of foods that are plant-based, nutrient dense and low-fat will help prevent and often reverse most degenerative diseases that kill us and are expensive to treat.
