When the life energy moves through us without obstruction, we are in perfect harmony.

If we experience pain somewhere it is wise to pay attention to it, because it is a sign that something is out of balance. If you only seek to alleviate pain by supressing it, you have not addressed the fundamental cause of the pain. Pain is functional because of the signal it gives.

Pain is an indication of the presence of stagnation, a blockage of free movement of life energy through the body. Those initial twinges of pain... it is wise to think of them as a signal from your body that there is a blockage and some attention is needed. I find that if I pay attention, if I immediately seek help from my JSJ practitioner or apply self-help, the pain dissappears.

Most of us however ignore these initial twinges.. We seek to suppress the pain with OTC medications and we wait until we are really in pain to pay attention to the signal and seek help.

JSJ helps us to be aware of the signal, and teaches us what to do to address the cause and to return to balance, harmony and wellness. Generally speaking, the longer we live with pain,  the longer it will take to release it. But know that with Jin Shin Jyutsu and Time, all things are possible. Today I stumbled on this beautiful proverb and it rocked my world! Why did it so rock my world, you wonder? Well, in its simplicity this quote manages to sum up my entire view on how to deal with every issue/project that comes up for me in my life, be it of a personal or global nature!


Since the first step is "light in the soul", just how does one have "light in the soul"?

It is the same as saying, "First, Look inside." For me, this is about starting within your own being. And since "light" is something that makes things visible or illuminated, it is about letting that radiance shine out, to switch on the light, and shine forth. This act of lighting the soul serves to clarify our connection to Source and illuminates our essence, that which makes us WHO we are and defines our PURPOSE. We glow with luminous energy, emitting self-generated light. We are enlightened. It is a process of remembering the light from which we come, Our Source.

According to Plato and Socrates, the soul is the essence of a person, that which decides how we behave. Plato tells us that the soul is made up of three parts: body, mind and spirit. Each of these has a function in a balanced and peaceful soul.

Jin Shin Jyutsu can light up your soul and thereby begin this beautiful process of unfolding! Jin Shin Jyutsu helps me to keep from standing in my own light, from blocking myself from the inner beacon that reminds me of who I am and that I indeed have purpose. Jin Shin Jyutsu energizes body, mind and spirit. When these three "bodies" are in balance and harmony, the light in the soul glows bright and the inner fire radiates beauty and bliss. We thereby begin this beautiful process of unfolding and the world becomes a better place.

To balance and harmonize our total being we can simply hold the palms of the hand. Holding the palms puts us in direct contact with the energy that determines the blueprint for our manifested form, the human body. As we are burdened with the trials of our everyday life, it behooves us to remember that we are indeed SPIRITUAL BEINGS having a HUMAN EXPERIENCE. With this in mind, I find it easier to deal with the mundane aspects of being human.

Since this energy puts us in touch with SOURCE energy, it is small wonder that throughout human history, people have clasped their hands together in "prayer" position. The ancients knew that this was not just a symbolic gesture but a practical way to connect with SOURCE  and find harmony with the universe.

As a total harmonizer, holding the palms, one at a time or together, will enable us to feel a profound sense of peace and onenesss with ALL. Harmony is bestowed upon diaphragm and umbilicus energy. This energy helps to regulate temperature and breath. It is the source of our personal life energy. Holding the palms can serve as a recharge for your rundown "battery".

This energy is ours to access at any time of the day or night. Sit or lie quietly with hands held together, either fingertips in palms or palms together in whatever way that you find most comfortable. Breathe.Inhale, Exhale. Relax the shoulders. Allow the shoulder blades the slip down the back any amount. Continue breathing with awareness and feel the pulse of the universe in the palm of your hands. Remember that you are a Spiritual Being having a Human Experience and SMILE. Know that all you need is already there, inside you.

Daily Self-Help Tip: Breath is the basis for energy. The breath is the simplest and most perfect of all the tools we have for health and balance. It can be used with awareness at any moment to balance the life energy and bring us into a place of harmony and healing flow. EXHALE long and deep, then you need not TAKE an inhalation but will RECEIVE one naturally.

Sit with your hands folded in your lap. Drop your shoulders. Bow your head and SMILE from the very soul of me. As you EXHALE, unload all the dust dirt and greasy grime that is held in your body. Exhale from head to toes.

Inhale from toes to head. RECEIVE the Cosmic Energy of Abundance. Connect to the Cosmic Energy Force.

In Jin Shin Jyutsu, we are invited to focus not on the inhalation.. but instead on the Exhalation. The exhalation is the key to clearing the body. Clear your clutter. Too many of us are hoarders of one kind or another. Many of us hoard our breath by not exhaling fully. WE keep the old stuff in and don't make room for the new purified air, the abundant out-pouring of limitless life-power, our birth-right.

"The Meditation of the 36 Conscious Exhalations" is a great way to access this Limitless Life-Power.
Begin by counting each exhalation.  One, exhale, inhale. Two, exhale, inhale....... Allow your breath to unfold naturally. You will begin to realize that once you have fully exhaled, the next inhalation "just happens", no effort. Enjoy.
If you lose count, just begin again. This exercise can be done all at once, or broken into 4 session of 9 breaths each.
In time, your breathing will automatically become deeper and more rhythmic.

Receive each breath with awareness and gratitude.

When I first discovered JSJ, I suffered from incapacitating back pain that had begun at age 10. I practiced JSJ Self Help daily and now my back pain is gone. When there is a flair-up, I use my self help to get back in balance, usually within 24 hours. In the past, a flair-up meant weeks of recovery and pain.

For back projects my self-help is simple. With one hand, HOLD the back of your head where your skull meets the spine. With the other hand HOLD your tailbone. This simple flow helps the life energy push through the stagnant places in the spine, strengthening the spine and balancing the energy that supports both bladder and kidney function energy ...among other things!

Begin your day with this flow before you even are fully awake. Then during the day, take a break and do this flow again. Once more at bedtime and this flow will help you sleep.
Three times a day for 10-20 minutes, whatever you have time for, and you will be on your way to freeing yourself from back stress and pain.

Be in Balance. You'll like it there!

I should tell you that it took about a year to see the big difference, although I felt improvement after a week or so of dedicated daily self-help. IT has been since 2003 that I have made self-help a daily part of my life.
At that time, there we no other practitioners that I knew of in the area, so JSJ Sessions with a Practitioner were not possible, I had to depend on myself.

Attitude is the way you mentally look at the world around you. It is how you view your environment and your future. It is the focus you develop toward life itself.
In Jin Shin Jyutsu, we know that the body is affected by the air, food, activities, thoughts and stresses that we experience each moment of living. Our attitudes dis-harmonize the flow of life energy in our bodies and disrupt the pathways which deliver the limitless supply of life energy to every part of our physical being.  Attitudes keep us from freely being all that we have the potential to BE.

In my opinion, the attitude that does the most harm is FEAR...as it governs the development of all of the other attitudes..Worry, Anger, Sadness and Grief, Pretense. Think about it. What is Worry but the fear that something won't go the way we want it to go? What is Anger, but the fear that we are not getting our way? What is Sadness and Grief, but the fear that things will never be the same again and nothing will ever fill the emptiness? And what is Pretense, but the fear of not being accepted for who we really are? Indeed Fear governs them all.

MY DESTINY IS IN MY OWN HANDS: One of the simplest ways to utilize Jin Shin Jyutsu on ourselves is to hold each of our fingers, one at a time. To reverse the affect that attitudes have on our bodies and our lives, we simply need to HOLD our fingers. Each finger harmonizes an attitude as well as the organs that are affected by that particular attitude. Hold your fingers not to suppress attitudes but to express or release them. HOLD each finger for about 5 minutes or until you can feel a gentle rhythmic pulsing. Even and clear. Breath easily. Relax the shoulders and smile from the very heart of you.

Hold your Thumb to balance and clear WORRY.
Hold your Index Finger to balance and clear FEAR.
Hold your Middle Finger to balance and clear ANGER.
Hold your Ring Finger to balance and clear SADNESS and GRIEF.
Hold your Little Finger to balance and clear PRETENSE.

Take charge of your attitudes. It will make such a big difference in your life and in the amount of stress that you allow to accumulate in your being.

This little poem reminds me to stay present and let go. It also reminds me of the power of our thoughts!

Self Help Tip of the Day: Be true to yourself. Speak your truth.

Our attitudes dis-harmonize the flow of life energy in our bodies. The attitude of PRETENSE is destabilizing to our skeletal structure, heart and small intestine functions.

Pretense includes feelings of insecurity, effort,selfishness, overdoing it, and cover-up...crying on the inside while laughing on the outside. This attitude speaks to our effort, our "trying to" do whatever. The effort that it takes just to get through the day. This attitude tells us that there is a conflict of desire that is incompatible with who we really are. Pretense can manifest in a work addiction. The opposite of Pretense is BEING.

To balance PRETENSE, HOLD the LITTLE FINGER for about 5 minutes or until you can feel a gentle rhythmic pulsing. Even and clear. Breath easily. Relax the shoulders and smile from the very heart of you.

As you hold the LITTLE FINGER, nerves are settled and the need for pretense is diminished. Stress is eased, bloating reduced, and sore throats are relieved. Remind yourself that we are Human BEINGS not Human TRYINGS. Let go of effort. Allow the universe to unfold spontaneously before you. Revel in the effortless reality that is your life.

Self-Help Tip of the Day: Bring JOY. Sadness corresponds with attitudes of negativity, fear of rejection and grief. This attitude disrupts the flow of life energy to lung and large intestine functions, is mucous producing and causes us respiratory distress. When we grieve, our ability to release and let go is restricted. Sadness often manifests in a smoking addiction. The opposite of sadness is the all encompassing feeling of joy and laughter.

To balance sadness, HOLD the RING FINGER for about 5 minutes or until you can feel a gentle rhythmic pulsing. Even and clear. Breath easily. Relax the shoulders and smile from the very heart of you.

As you hold the RING FINGER, sadness begins to melt away, mucous conditions are eased, breathing distress is reduced and you facilitate the vital flow of life energy and joy throughout the body. Smile. Breath easy and release your grip on the old and be receptive to the new.

Self-Help Tip of the Day: Be in Balance. The attitude of ANGER is destructive to balance & harmony in the body. IT is the feeling of "I'm not getting my way and I don't like it!" IT is a force that can separate the soul from the body as it creates such an intense, destabilizing energy within. Anger also affects the function of Liver and Gall Bladder Energy in the body as well as Blood Essence and can manifest in alcohol addiction. The opposite of ANGER is Harmony & Balance.

To balance anger, HOLD the MIDDLE FINGER for about 5 minutes or until you can feel a gentle rhythmic pulsing. Even and clear. Breath easily. Relax the shoulders and smile from the very heart of you.
As you hold the MIDDLE FINGER, the destructive feelings of anger begin to dissipate. The Middle Finger is the General Harmonizer of the body. It is powerful for the respiratory system and promotes good digestive function while releasing tension from the knees. As we come into balance, we increase our capacity for compassion and reinstate harmony.

Hold your middle finger whenever you feel "out of balance". As Tomas Merton once wrote, "Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony." Holding the middle finger will remind you that balance is where you really want to live.

Funny, isn't it, that often the middle finger is used to express Anger.. why not use it to balance  and clear anger? Give it a try!

Self-Help Tip of the Day: Don't Worry, BE Happy. WORRY is the attitude that encompasses depression, hate, obsession, anxiety and self-protection. Worry affects the function of the Spleen, Stomach, and Skin Surface and inhibits our ability to obtain sustenance. It is associated with an addiction to sweets.

It is interesting to me that Benjamin Franklin said, "Do not anticipate trouble or worry about what may never happen.  Keep in the sunlight." One function of the Spleen is that it takes the energy from the Sun and distributes it to all of our organs. IT energizes our organs with the Sun. Indeed, Keep in the sunlight!

The opposite of worry is the feeling of security in our capacity to be nourished and loved, a confidence in our ability to be sustained in our life.

To balance worry, HOLD the THUMB for about 5 minutes or until you can feel a gentle rhythmic pulsing. Even and clear. Breath easily. Relax the shoulders and smile from the very heart of you.
As you hold the THUMB, all worries begin to melt away, daily fatigue is unloaded, stomach distress is allayed and you facilitate the flow of life energy throughout the body. Smile. De-stress. Have a great day!
