Swamiji's Bhagavad Gita for Modern Times Commentary - Reviews

Sunday, August 31, 2008

For the past few decades students have been asking me to write a Gita, to which I always responded, that there were hundreds if not thousands of translations available. It is always best to contribute by filling a void or need rather. However, in 2006, one student shyly admitted to me that after a many years and many versions, he still didn't understand the Gita. "How does it relate to my life? How does it relate to my Christian religion?", he asked.

For the first I realized there was a need for such a commentary. Yet still not convinced an entire book was needed, I agreed to write a short few pages to explain to folks how to begin to think about Gita as it relates to their own lives. Well, I started to write the page, and about 20 pages later I saw that I have written the entire Chapter 2 of the book. Maybe there is a book here afterall. So I tried to write a bit more, and you know, the whole book came out effortlessly.

Since then many folks have been echoing what the other student had said about they're not understanding Gita, until they read my commentary. So I feel I have in some small way contributed to the understanding of Gita so folks can apply it to their lives today and find more peace and inner joy.
