Swine Flu, like any other contagious illness, is spread through contact. The obvious steps to prevention recommend washing hands, staying clear of feverish people who are dispersing viral material by sneezing, and boosting your own immune system with proper lifestyle, supplements, sunshine - Vitamin D and rest.
We may wonder why some people by-pass contagious disease while others succumb? It is interesting to note that the swine flu especially effects young healthy individuals. They say it is because the healthy person puts out a strong reaction to eliminate the virus. This very high fever, with chills, bone pains, cough and discharge requires a strong constitution to pull through the stages of disease.
Fortunately, homeopathic remedies have a history of helping the individual through these different stages from
predromal to
sequela.
I, personally, take
oscillococcinum or influenzinum each flu season. The beauty of homeopathy is that it is based on the Law of Similars. While traditional medicine requires a vaccination composed of the exact influenza strain to be effective, the homeopathic remedy only needs a 'similar' remedy. This means that if the remedy is composed of a substance that produces particular symptoms in a well individual, then that remedy will stimulate the immune system of an ill person to fight or resist the on-coming similar symptoms.
This particular season, as we watch the spread of swine flu spread across the map into every country, there is a tendency to produce anxiety and fear of this disease which has taken lives. There are a number of homeopathics that have been used successfully. On my recent trip to New York City, knowing that Swine Flu had numerous cases there, I was feeling quite anxious and took a dose of Gelsemium. By morning I was ready to board the airplane without concern.
Professional homeopaths have also recommended Ferrum Phos 6X cell salt for the onset of fever with anxiety.
