Fall is swiftly approaching us whether we feel cheated by our lack of summer or not. As the world around us starts to transition into harvest time the wind is picking up, and cooler weather is just in front of us. We might still prefer open neck clothing but according to Chinese Medicine this exposure leaves our bodies vulnerable to attack from wind causing colds and flus. While several of Whole Health Acupuncture's blogs have already discussed prevention techniques over the last couple of weeks in this blog we would like to highlight an herbal formula that is both proactive and preventative.
Jade Windscreen or Yu Ping Feng San is an herbal formula designed with the intention of supplementing the lung and wei qi (immune system) while stabilizing the Spleen.
What does this mean to you?
In Chinese Medicine your Lung is considered the most delicate organ and usually works with your wei qi the part of you that keeps your defenses or immune system strong.
Your spleen is responcible in Chinese Medicine for the transportation and transformation of food and energy. The spleen/stomach system works hardest during seasonal transitions. If the spleen is not strong this can cause a break down of your wei qi (immune system) and lungs causing illness like colds and flu or sinus troubles.
Jade Windscreen is an ideal seasonal transitional formula because it is boosting your body up. Should there be a minor imbalance that is not quite noticable right now between your lungs, immune system or spleen using this formula will help to balance the body in addition to tonification of the entire body. It is gentle so as not to over power you and knock your body out of balance in the opposite direction.
If you are nervous about taking Chinese herbs because of fear of contaimination we would like to put your fear at ease. Whole Health Acupuncture uses herbal tinctures from Kan Herbs and each formula comes with a lab test of herbs and if there is any question of contamination from heavy metals etc Kan will not produce the formula. All of Whole Health Acupuncture practitioners take herbal formulas on a regular basis to promote health in their own bodies. We would not recommend a product we wouldn't feel comfortable giving ourselves or our families.
Remember that herbal medicine is a science and for optimal benefit you should consult with an herbalist. To schedule your herbal consultation at Whole Health Acupuncture with Kara or Sarah please call 847.357.3929
