Medical tourism (also known as health tourism and medical travel) is a trip to another country to obtain health care services, especially when the treatment sought is expensive and the traveler may not be covered under health insurance and has to pay for the procedure out-of-pocket.
Health care services for the medical tourist are often elective treatments or can be expensive specialized surgeries. Popular medical travel examples include cardiac surgery, cosmetic surgery, dental treatments and joint replacement.
